From a whim to a wham The very purpose of me writing each concept is exactly what says on the tin. I have a lot of kids and each of them has story that I'd like to write down. From the one who is usually talked most, and the one who is more like forgotten. This time, it's the turn of this young lady. 2016--2018. Now come in full color (and shade)! Build up story and design notesPrompts are always be my reason in making a new kid. I don't like to draw a kid without any reason and then being neglected afterwards, even from the very first time I have Hii-chan. Even if they don't have stories, at least they usually have a purpose. Either as a mascot, as a role-play character, or basically anything as long as the prompt exists. The other thing is, I'm not good at designing from scratch. Hence, generators and shindanmaker are some of my favorite generators in giving prompts and ideas. Truthfully come to think of it, I think lots of my kids generated from that, hahaha. The kids that especially have no detailed background stories. Back then in 2016, a prompt in shindan to create a high-schooler OC was exist, both available on girls’ and boys’ version. It was a boom among Japanese users. Curious and following the trend, I tried it, and got this as result: The result is somehow cute and interesting, so I tried to draw it and then, Riho exists. I was even being invited on RPing both as Nae and Riho back then, but I… kinda declined that because I don’t want to make another twitter account just for that (+ kinda feel bad if people know that I’m just a gaijin who likes to tweet on Japanese on my sub-acc) hahaha. In the end, though, these two are sort of forgotten right after created. Sometimes, I did have a motivation to give them more detailed stuff, so I tried to expand them a lot from the original prompt. I even had plan to make a one-shot story about these two, and it was actually already done, down to its plot and ending. However, by the time I revamp STKR, I thought to insert them to the verse as well, since they fit the criteria by being my (some kind) role-play characters. Though it didn’t happen. By inserting them to this verse, it gives me more room to work and detailing their story. However, since these two are side characters, their initial story will probably be inserted as a side story of the STKR plot. I just follow Riho’s design from what the prompt suggests, so it’s not that hard to imagine her. I’d like having her in high ponytail, but I want to make it different from Math’s, so it’s just… well, default ponytail instead of side tail. Designing her casual clothes, though… it was quite giving a headache HAHAHA. I want to somehow emphasis her curvaceous bodyline without having her looks like trying to do so. At first, I was going with the spaghetti strap + oversized sweater + balloon pants combination, just like the picture above. Considering that… was too girly and too childish on her tall figure, I scrapped the idea. I’d like to have her daring, but somehow still classy since she comes from quite a family with money and simple. In the end, I have her wearing a skin-tight legging with sleeveless shirt and topped with off-shoulder oversize sweaters. I kinda pleased on how it turns, I think. Despite her popping personality, I give her calm color scheme to blend it with Nae’s. Name & BirthdayRiho and Nae is always together from the very first and their name even stem from same name, Sanae. That's it, the name of my other mascot than Kairi. When I did the shindan, I split Sanae’s name to Sana and Nae, got the result, and drew them. As I don't want another case of too much kids with similar name, I’ve learned my lesson yo, I opted to make both Sana and Nae as part of their surnames. So, from Sana, it becomes Sanada Riho. I’ve always wanted to have a daughter named Riho, despite my claim to not making another name in Japanese (ha ha). This is purely because I want to have her called as Rippi. In my defense, that sounds cute. Riho is actually spelled as Rihou, but I keep Riho instead for the romanization. I was picky for the kanji as well, hahaha. Ri comes from jasmine (莉), while Hou comes from heirloom or treasure (宝). Befitting her ojousama status. Also, I split kanji for Sanada as Sa-nada instead of usual Sana-da. I have no significant thing to symbolizes her birthday. It’s just I’m lacking on kids who have birthday in this month, so I place her on March. The date is 12 just because I want to write it as 12/3, typical generic kiriban, hahaha. Personality & RelationshipWhile I did the plot outline for the stories, I haven’t been able to write it in detail. Hence, I’m still grasping on how will Riho turn out to be. At the very least, she is... a dash of Math, a dash of Yomi, and a dash of Zreyn. This makes her become the queen-ish/little devilish archetype on this universe yeah because in the end I always stumbled upon same base in making character, sob. Well, she does have her own identity, and the devilish trait is what I'd like to emphasize more on her character. So far, I’ve been having fun in writing her. Maybe the most prominent thing that she has if being compared to other queen archetypes is that… she’s the most downplayed one. Like, she’s rich, but it’s not in a filthy rich level like Zreyn is. She’s mature, a bit dominant, and playful in her own way, but it’s not as in how dominant as Math is or as playful as Yomi is. I do think she’s the diluted version of those three, but she has her own… strong point? I kinda want to emphasize her gadfly side. Well, I won’t really elaborate much on that. Due to being paired from the conception, it is already decided to make this her and Nae as an official couple. This setting is still brought over their transfer to STKR-verse. Since the story was only revolving around the two of them, it's actually rather hard to talk about Riho... without mentioning Nae as well, haha. Because, she is somehow designated to have a role as a satellite character for Nae. For her relation with others, I like her dynamic with Kei because they are nemesis for life HAHAHA. I like to see how she gets along with Hii-chan, too! They are just like perfect impish tag team, haha. I also think to have this STKR-verse related to the AMK-verse, so I make her as the key to connect it, since she’s the most plausible one. This was actually come from my realization that she has lighter color scheme from Zreyn, so I wanted to make them related in some and other way. However, as I already played the cousin cards a lot in Zreyn, I thought to link her to someone’s possible and passable enough. And it’s Tohma. While their verses occur in roughly same timeline, I don’t want to mix ‘em up altogether. I don’t want a fantasy setting of someone’s work being derived here on my own original work, and I want to keep SoL genre as it is, so their relation is… as thin as it be. It’s basically Riho has an uncle (mother’s brother), said uncle married, and her aunt (the uncle’s wife) is the cousin of Tohma’s father. So… yyyeah, they are relatives at best. They do know each other and meet at some point, but I think they know nothing about each other respectively due to how far the connection is. End noteI… really have nothing significant to say for her. The only thing for sure, it’s new for me to have a set of kids being a couple from the very first. Not to mention, she has an overused archetype, so in a way… it’s kinda challenging for me to see how will she turn out and grow. I always have this kind of feeling about the kids that I didn’t develop much, and then, bam, they go into a kiddo with lengthy meticulous detail which make them same but different at the same time. Yes, I’m looking at you, Kay. I won’t force myself to write for a development for her, but I’m open for rooms to make her grow. I’m genuinely intrigued in the prospect. [Last updated on June 2020]
